Supporting Watford Mencap in our local community

posted 31 Oct 2012, 00:45 by Unknown user
The Chorleywood Residents Association is a "Non Profit" making organisation that informs its members of what is happening in and around Chorleywood by means of a printed newsletter twice a year , a website and regular email bulletins to our area reps, who deliver our newsletter along with our members who subscribe.
We attend the annual Village day and Christmas Shopping evening every year to meet up with our residents face to face and discuss any issues they may have along with welcoming new members to the association.  At both these events we offer refreshments and sustenance and we endeavor to cover our costs. Generally we have funds left over after we have run a Christmas raffle or competition for the little ones and like to to donate these monies to local charities.
For the past two years we have supported the Michael Sobel Hospice, at Mount Vernon Hospital, who provide care for patients with life limiting illness and support for their families and carers. This year we will be supporting Watford Mencap who have a home in Chorleywood, Thorpedale and Berrywood in Rickmansworth.  Mencap supports adults with learning disabilities to live independently from there families and enjoy everyday activities, I.e. going to college and learning a skill, shopping for themselves and working in the community.
We are delighted to be able to support Mencap, as the residents are part of our community and are frequently seen out and about in the village. This also enables us to raise awareness of Mencap's valuable contribution to Chorleywood, in helping their residents enjoy a normal, active and happy life.
