More sewage releases into River Chess

posted 27 Oct 2020, 06:23 by Chorleywood Residents' Association
Since last month more sewage has been released into the River Chess bringing the total of such events to 70 since 2019. (click here for latest schedule)

Lots of residents responded to our River Chess questionnaire last month, overwhelmingly against these continued discharges into the River Chess.  We sent the survey results to Gagan Mohindra MP on 6th October asking for Action.  Click these links to see the Survey Results and our email to Gagan Mohindra.

Gagan responded to CRA saying “I have strongly encouraged Thames Water to invest throughout the [Chesham Sewage Treatment Works] site, including an additional storm well which should avoid the need for the discharges. All of these measures will take time but rest assured I am aware of the situation and I will maintain the pressure on them.”

We were pleased to hear that Gagan has joined the new Chalk Streams All Party Parliamentary Group, chaired by Sir Charles Walker.

CRA will continue to work closely with the River Chess Association to pursue our objective of clean water in the Chess.  Meanwhile ‘Sustainability Sarratt’ have produced an interesting account of a recent meeting with Thames Water covering Chess water quality.
