Ongoing thefts of batteries from Virgin Media Street Cabinets

Hertfordshire Police Neighbourhood Watch have asked local residents to look out for unusual activity near the green street cabinets in our locality.

There has been a spate of thefts from Virgin Media cabinets over the past two weeks. The thieves are forcing the doors on the cabinets and stealing the batteries that are stored in the bottom of the cabinet that maintains service to local residents in the event of power failure. The batteries are probably being sold for their scrap metal value.

If you notice anyone interfering or acting strangely near a street cabinet who does not appear to be a BT Openreach or Virgin Media employee (they should have a clearly signwritten / company branded van nearby), please call 999 immediately. If you discover an insecure cabinet, contact Hertfordshire Police on 0845 330 0222 who will follow up with further enquiries.

Both Hertfordshire Police and Thames Valley Police are trying to track down this gang, as thefts have occurred in Croxley Green, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and Amersham throughout the district. The lack of batteries could affect the ability of residents to be able contact the emergency services in the event of a power failure, so it's important that the gang are found promptly.
