Three Rivers District Council have made an announcment regarding changes to the refuse collections from June 2011. The Residents' Assocaition in interested to know of the impact of these changes on you, and whether you welcome them.

At the moment
  • Landfill waste (green bin) is collected once a week
  • Organic waste (brown bin) is collected alternate weeks fortnightly
  • Recycling boxes (paper, plastics, glass) is collected on the other alternate week fortnightly
The change will see the collection regimes of the green bin and brown bin reversed.

  • Recycling boxes (paper, plastics, glass) continues to be collected on the other alternate week fortnightly
Brown Bins

Previously residents were permitted to request an additional brown bin. As a result of these changes, the council has written to all households that have more than one brown bin and have stated that as their brown bin collection frequency will double, if they wish to keep their extra brown bin they have to pay £104 per annum.

Recycling boxes

The change to the recycling collection last year that now almost all plastics except trays that have had raw meat in them, and now more recently that even trays that have had raw meat are accepted if they are washed first has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of recycling in the district to the extent that for some households the existing recycling boxes are overflowing. You will from April be able to request new larger recycling boxes if you require this.

There is more information on this proposed change on the Three Rivers council website, and their FAQ - but what do you think?
