Health Update - October 2011

The Health and Social Care Bill is currently with the House of Lords, and in the meantime, Hertfordshire is moving ahead to be an early implementor. One important feature of the Bill is to bring health and social care closer together through Health and Wellbeing Boards. A Hertfordshire shadow Health and Wellbeing Board has already met to represent integrated patient interests, and Henry Goldberg as Chair of Herfordhsire Link is a member of the Health and Wellbeing board.

Work is also underway in Hertfordshire to transfer helthcare commissioning responsibility from the PCTs to Clinical Commissioning Groups, and these are new gaining the necessary authorisation to take over responsibility for commissioning as soon as possible.

And as we have already reported, Windmill House in Bushey (Intermediate Care unit) is to close with patients to transfer to either Garston or Elstree.

There's more detail on these changes in the upcoming Chorleywood Newsletter which will be distributed to members in early November.

Henry Goldberg, October 2011.
