It's not about the snow, it's all about the cold

The arrival of cold weather means that our hospitals will soon have an influx of patients with cold-related conditions. Deaths from heart disease increase almost immediately with the onset of cold weather, reaching their highest levels just two days after its arrival. Increase in incidences of stroke takes place later, at approximately five days and it usually takes another week for deaths from respiratory illnesses to peak. In Hertfordshire approaching 500 excess winter deaths occur each year and many more are hospitalised. Most of these are avoidable and most occur because of cold homes.

Herts County Council have done a short YouTube video to highlight some of the risks to residents during cold weather.
