Hertfordshire Highways Locality Meeting

posted 17 Nov 2012, 07:39 by Tomo   [ updated 17 Nov 2012, 07:39 ]
On Tuesday we met with our local County Councillor Christopher Hayward along with other stakeholders from the Parish Council (Jackie Worrall) and District Council (Martin Trevett) and the other areas in the County Ward (Loudwater, Sarratt, Chandlers Cross, Hunton Bridge).

Each County Councillor in Hertfordshire is given a Highways Locality Budget which can be spent on discretionary projects to improve local highways. Our local County Councillor has been allocated a highway locality budget for 2013/2014 of £90,000. Due to the upcoming County elections it has been decided that 66% of this budget can be initially allocated for schemes in the Chorleywood / Sarratt / Chandlers Cross / Hunton Bridge areas, the remaining £30,000 will be allocated by whoever is elected in 2013 for the County ward.

There are obviously a number of things that are not quite right locally, and the meeting not only discussed the wish list of things we would like to see fixed, but also how these should be tackled. Many of the things being raised are operational issues that should be fixed by Hertfordshire Highways as part of their normal operational and proactive maintenance budgets, and should not be the focus of discretionary funding

The meeting was also appraised of recent changes within Hertfordshire Highways and that a new contractor – Ringway - has taken over all Highway maintenance as of October 2012 and that there could be some teething problems as they take over service. The County Councillor can escalate issues provided that they’ve already been logged, preferably by the residents’ affected.

A considerable list of issues has been tabulted by the Residents' Association for Chorleywood, listing over 40 problems that affect our parish. We were very encouraged that over 10 residents contacted us regarding issues in their streets, many of which we were not aware of. The general message for all Highway issues to to report them, preferably online at HertsDirect or via phone to 0300 123 4047.

We'll be releasing the list of issue raised in due course. If you have any feedback in the meantime, please get in touch at transport@chorleywoodresidents.co.uk
